Road Trip 2008

Day 2
Today is Sunday. We woke at 6 am and got everything loaded back into the van, had breakfast, refueled and hit the highway. Texas has GOT to be one of the most least interesting states in the nation to drive through!!!
AT least we found a great rest stop. This Texas rest area was completely decked out in Route 66 paraphenelia- computer kiosks and everything. Way cool! This also won the girls' "cleanest bathroom on our trip" award . Their favorite part was this amazing play area where they burned off a little energy. Way to go Texas!

The kids finally figured out today that sleeping in the car was a pretty darned good way to pass some time

... ON TO OKLAHOMA

All of a sudden everything is Green! The weather is amazing. It is just warm enough to let you know it is summer but cool enough to enjoy being outside. Lots of wind which is probably why we saw alot of windmills. Really cool. We found a cute little park in Clinton to have a picnic. It is tough to believe the kids wanted to run around and play more than they wanted to eat.

We are about to leave I-40 and turn onto I-44 headed for Missouri. We have about 3 1/2 hours of driving left for today. The kids are still doing great. Y'know, as great as Oklahoma is... I do have one complaint. I have not smelled this much skunk EVER!!! Blech

On the upside.. Jen is feeling much better this afternoon. She woke up this morning with a fever and headache. She got her meds and a blessing from dad. She's like a new girl this afternoon. She said, " Mom, I knew the blessing would make me better." What simple yet powerful faith.

Aaah... Afternoon rest stop- gotta love Sonic Time. 2 more hours of driving before we stop in Joplin, Missouri for the night. I have to say that if the cherry/vanilla Diet Coke from Sonic is not the elixir of the Gods, I will truly be surprised 'cause it is totally yummy! Chino would disagree- it's Strawberry fruit slushes all the way for him. All the kids are on my side except Jolie, who prefers vanilla milkshakes.. figures!!

We're stopping in Missouri....

We arrived at our hotel just across the Oklahoma/Missouri border in Joplin about 6 pm. We got a little lost but finally found it. We were on the 4th floor of the hotel which the kids thought was pretty cool. Our room had 2 queen beds and a sofa bed so things were a little less crowded tonight. Our room also had a fully equipped kitchen- cool.

We ate dinner at the Cracker Barrel restaurant right next to the hotel. The food was ok but, the kids were too distracted by the store in the restaurant.

Chino took the kids to swim in the indoor pool while I did a few loads of laundry. Then it was back to the room for hot showers and hairdos. I certainly DID NOT appreciate the full length mirror on the bathroom wall directly opposite the toilet. Who plans these kinds of things????

Chino took a trip to Walmart to pick up a charger for the cell phones and brought us back some ice cream. Yeah dad!!!
